Solobay, Daley Announce Funding for Business Park » Home   » Newsroom

HARRISBURG – Jan. 31, 2012 – The Middle Monongahela Industrial Development Association will receive $600,000 in state aid to continue development at Alta Vista Business Park and the economic recovery of the Mon Valley, state Sen. Tim Solobay and state Rep. Peter J. Daley announced today.

“The natural gas industry has brought opportunity to the region, but tremendous cooperation at all levels of government has allowed us to take full advantage of that opportunity,” Solobay said.

MIDA will receive $250,000 in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Funding and a $350,000 grant for water and sewer infrastructure. The 256-acre site sits on I-70 in Washington County at Interchange 32B, and is already home to companies related to the Marcellus Shale gas drilling.

“The partners in this project are doing more than creating new buildings and infrastructure,” Daley said. “They’re building a future for the working families of the region and for the next generation.”

The grants were originally approved by the Rendell administration, but were put on hold for further review by the incoming Corbett administration.

“Everybody had to work together to make the case for this project in an era of scarce public funding,” Solobay said. “It’s exciting to see the activity here.”

Solobay and Daley were made the announcement at the new local headquarters of Gardner Denver Nash, a worldwide maker of pump and compressor products.

The company is consolidating operations at Alta Vista, which is a site abandoned by U.S. Steel more than 40 years ago.
