Solobay, Daley Announce Grant, Loan for Carroll Sewer Repairs » Home   » Newsroom

HARRISBURG – Jan. 25, 2012 – The Carroll Township Authority has been approved for a grant and a low-interest loan to make repairs to aging sewer lines, state Sen. Tim Solobay and state Rep. Peter J. Daley announced today.

More than 18,000 feet of sewer line will be upgraded during the $1 million project.

“Keeping up with infrastructure improvements has been difficult during the economic downturn,” Solobay said. “State investment in local communities will preserve the environment and give a needed economic boost.”

The Carroll Township Authority collection system serves 2,000 residential customers and hundreds of businesses, including Monongahela Valley Hospital.

“Business development and growth has been, and will continue to be, a key to helping the region recover from the recession,” Daley said. “This project will ensure that we have the capacity to continue the momentum.”

At the same time, the project will help protect Pigeon Creek from sewage overflows caused by storm-water infiltration.

At a meeting today, PENNVEST approved a $100,000 grant and a $940,000 loan that will be paid back at 1.59 percent interest for the first five years and 2.3 percent for 15 years after that. The project is expected to begin in September and take three months to complete.
